Our Cause

If you've ever donated blood you have filled out the standardized questionnaire they provide you and are aware of the questions that are asked. One question which much of the LGBT community protests to is the following:

19. Male donors: Have you had sex with a man, even one time since 1977?

This question denies every man who has ever had sexual contact with another man from donating any usable blood in their lifetime. This is not just limited to males either, there is another question which uses a similar criteria to ban women from donating blood:

22. Female donors: In the last 12 months, have you had sex with a man who had sex, even one time since 1977 with another man?

What we aim to accomplish here is to publicly demonstrate how many people are being denied the chance to donate blood but more importantly how many people could potentially be saved if the legislation were to change. If you would like to know more about the arguments put forth to end this ban please visit the science page.

How You Can Help

This is an entirely independent movement aimed at trying to get the right people to take notice of the discontent within the Canadian population. You can help us by pledging your support. If you are disqualified by either of these two criteria we would love to have you make a pledge to donate your blood if and when the policies regarding these exclusions change. The statistics above show how many people to date have pledged their support and how many lives we could save next year if policies were to change.

If you are not disqualified from donating but you still support our cause we welcome you to pledge your support as well! Thanks for visiting us and be sure to check out our Facebook and Twitter pages below.
